Mark Mullen is originally from Dallas, graduated from Wesleyan University and worked in democratic transitions in East Africa, the Middle East, and the former Soviet countries, particularly Georgia where he lived for many years. His work focused on civic organizing, particularly in broad based non-partisan domestic election observation. He was a Sloan Fellow at London Business School 2006-7, and worked in social enterprise in the UK. Returning to Tbilisi in 2010, he set up a number of social enterprises and non-profits to combat Kremlin sponsored active measures in Georgia which at the time were increasing noticeably. These included the translation into Georgian of new non-fiction books, distribution to rural libraries and setting up book clubs via text message, as well as an alumni association for young people in Georgia who had studied in Europe, and a micro-grant organization focused on supporting village based activists. He moved to San Francisco in 2013.
He has currently set up and runs a non-partisan non-profit to help the most enthusiastic new voters help their friends vote; to keep track of their registration, to help these enthusiasts get their friends the information they need to vote, and ensure they get to the polls.
